Establishing Credit
Having good credit is very important if you plan to apply for finance in the future – which is something that most people have to do at some point or other, whether it is for a mortgage, a car, or for any other type of finance. Some people are lucky and thanks to careful financial management and responsible repayments on loans and credit, they enjoy a good credit rating and can look forward to a brighter financial future. Others can fall behind in payments or miss them altogether and for one reason or other end up with a poor credit score, which can make life difficult when it comes to getting affordable finance in the future.
Another type of person that could find it difficult to get credit and good deals on finance is the person that has no credit rating, such as students that may have only just left college. Having no credit is as bad as having poor credit when it comes to getting finance, as without a credit history or score there is no way for potential lenders to assess the risk factor associated to lending you money.
Establishing credit is important for those with little or no credit history, and these days you can do this in a number of ways. If you are at college you will find that many lenders now offer student credit cards with low, manageable credit limits. By taking out one of these and ensuring that you make payments on time and for at least the minimum payment each time, you can start establishing a good credit ready for your future.
You can also establish credit in other ways such as ordering from catalogues and making responsible payments on the balance. You will find a range of products these days that can help you with establishing credit. However, the main point to remember is that no matter which product you use the only way to establish good credit is to ensure that you make your repayments responsibly, which means repaying the minimum amount asked for or more, and ensuring that your repayment reaches the creditor on time.
