Website Gives Homeowners Tips on Fair Lending

In what may be a market first, Americas Watchdog now offers a homeowners center where the average homebuyer can get useful tips about becoming a better consumer – and homeowner. The national consumer advocacy organization has decided to launch its website with a top five list of how to be a better, more educated homebuyer. The goal is that as people go into buying a home, they will be able to protect themselves from being overcharged, misled or cheated.
The top five picks may sound like common sense, but can be overwhelming for those who have never done their research. The first thing a buyer can do to protect themselves is to use a site like Zillow.com, which will show a property's value according to the recent sales in the area. A good real estate agent can also make the whole process less stressful. A member of the National Association of Realtors is a good place to start for this. Another point to keep in mind is to research mortgage terminology and ask questions. This keeps a broker or agent from trying to change information after the fact. Lastly, don’t discount a homeowners’ policy. Pay for good coverage so the new investment is completely covered.
