Indy Couple Uncover Mortgage Scam
Topic Added October 24th, 2006 - Print This Story
A couple in Indiana helped bust open a mortgage scam that involved both their state and Virginia. While two women in Virginia preyed on neighbors, fellow churchgoers and business associates, a man in Indiana facilitated the fraud by supplying “property” in Indiana. The couple, which run a firm that helps people facing foreclosure, were made aware of the situation by those affected who were considering foreclosure as a means of getting out from under the scam.
The couple brought to light the fraud, which involved using the credit of the victims to finance properties in Indiana. The people behind the fraud would collect the money for the property, but would not inform the people that they had just purchased land in another state. The properties would go into foreclosure, the victims would be negatively affected on their credit, and the fraudsters would walk away with hundreds of thousands of dollars. Officials are grateful that the couple came forward and outlined the scam, which facilitated the capture of those committing the fraud. Bank officials are in the works of relieving the victims of any financial obligation to the properties, thus restoring their credit standing.\r\n
